I would actually scream if i had to sit in one of these ice cream vans and wait for the one solitary customer who might just happen upon a potential ’99 or dollop of soft scoop only to see it melt almost immediately…just bad news all round!

Not 1 but 2 vans side by side competing for business...

Maybe not the best location for such rivals

I visited my friends new restaurant -just in time to save him from hoisting his two 12ft signs onto the side of the building. I explained that ‘his shifs cocking frish fish’ might not attract his desired customer.

I have mentioned snake oil in jest but this is the ‘real’ thing. I’d like to meet the man who had experienced the results of thick, shiny hair due to this magical potion!
Excuse my henna’d hands in the background of the iphone picture…wanted to leave the authenticity in it! Note the shopkeepers hands on hips as he waits for me to take picture and leave :)

Not sure if Copra and Cobra is the same thing but it's all snake oil to me...

I did mention the ‘white coffee’ a few days ago – it’s hot water with rosewater added. Tastes like a blend of your favourite soaps without the foaming action.

mint, pollen, rose, cinnamon, diabetes, fumitory...limited only by your imagination!

Here are some other bottles of water infusions. I’m not quite sure how some of these are made because they are just water and the distilled essence…but essence of diabetes?
Snake-oil?!

In the souk I found this small shop which fries everything. It is sold in bags or individually and puts hairs on your liver! Made from gram (chickpea) flour, coconut milk, sugar and oil. Heart transplant anyone?

a man with a mission to fry the world...

1Kg to go please...

‘Dew of the sea’ – Rosemary comes in lots of varieties with exotic names such name as Ken Taylor, Irene, Gold Dust, Pinkie and Arp.It was used to treat gout and is thought to be anti-carcinogenic.
Of course you can use it in cooking and to make a tea infusion but if you fry it lightly it is delicious and fragrant and full of B6, iron and calcium. Here is the Hiltl chef frying tonight…

This has to be some extreme branding! Here in a souk in the middle east there is a stall which sells boxes of honey (same honey, different claims) This is a great example of not believing everything you read….Honey
